Brief History of Omamori

Omamori are traditional Japanese Shinto charms that are said to bring things such as good luck to the person who possesses them. Because these charms are usually tied to a shrine “kami” or “god”, omamori are given (purchased) at the shrine or temple. What determines the powers of the omamori relies on two factors: 1, the shrine or temple must have a powerful Buddhist image (“gohonzon”) or Shinto deity (“goshintai”) and 2, a story (“engi”). In current times, omamori are understood as tokens or amulets that bring assistance to the person, but require the person to have complete and sincere efforts in achieving what they want.

These are FAN MADE omamori. These are charms that are meant to be just that… CHARMS. These are not blessed or created from Shinto shrines from Japan.
